Product description

As with so many Winsor & Newton products, their unsurpassed quality can, in part, be attributed to the rigorous selection of only the highest grade of raw materials. So it is with the Series 7 Watercolour Kolinsky Sable Brush.

This tradition began in 1866 when Her Majesty Queen Victoria gave orders that Winsor & Newton, holders of the Royal Warrant produce brushes of the highest possible quality in her favourite size No. 7. The brushes were hand made by craftsmen ensuring only the very finest Kolinsky Sable Hair was used.

Since that time artists from all over the world have acclaimed Series 7 as unrivalled amongst sable brushes and to this day carries its world-wide reputation for the finest quality sable available.

Manufacturer's Description

Winsor & Newton has always been core to the world of art materials. We proudly maintain our pledge of manufacturing “The World’s Finest Artist’ Materials”.This is as true now as it was when our company was founded in 1832, and we take our relationship with the artist very seriously. Our founders, Henry Newton and William Winsor were involved with the leading artists of their time - J.M.W Turner for example - and to this day, we strive to keep up with the latest developments in the art world and take an active interest in what artists say. We have built our reputation on the quality and reliability of our products, combined with continual product development, improvement and innovation. However, while keeping true to the principles laid down by William Winsor and Henry Newton in the 1800’s we actively embrace new ideas, new technologies and search the world for the best raw materials available.

Choosing the right brush is important and at Winsor & Newton, we have over 150 years of brush making experience. It is this experience which enables us toprovide a number of brushes that are ideal for water colour painting.

Water colour brushes are designed to control the flow of colour. The perfectbrush will have afine point, the ability tohold and evenly control colour and should be able to spring back into shape after everystroke.

Series 7 is the world's finest water colour brush. The standards of quality for this brush were set in 1866, when Her Majesty Queen Victoria gave orders that Winsor & Newton shouldproduce the very finest water colour brushes in her favourite size; the No.7.

Today, Series 7 is manufactured from only the finest pure Kolinsky Sable hair, in rust-proof, seamless nickel plated ferrules with black polished handles.

Series 7 uses only the highest quality raw materials and enjoys hand made manufacture by our brush makers with years of experience. For larger sizes, each brush is packed into an individual box with a tag included to indicate the name of the Series 7 brush maker who made that particular brush.

Most importantly, Series 7 fulfils the essential qualities that define the finest water colour brush for artists: Point - the brush comes to a crisp point which is maintained during use;Snap & Spring - the brush snaps crisply back into shape with the right degree of spring to allow the artist superior control between the brush and painting surface; Flow Control - The colour flows evenly and consistently from the point, with enough colour carrying capacity in the belly of the brush to allow flowing gestural strokes.

For artists who appreciate exquisite quality and longevity, there is no other brush than the Series 7. Today, just as in 1866, the Series 7 is made for those who understand that the quality of the brush will be reflected in the quality of their work.
